Spanish lesson

Years ago, when my son was a toddler, my mom was totally into buying him overalls. At the time there was not a big selection of little boy fashions and Osh Kosh By Gosh were her outfits of choice.
My mom came over with a new pair of overalls and some slacks for Bear to try on.
Nana asked Bear to model the outfits for her. Relunctantly, my son tried on the slacks one after the other. I could tell he was slightly annoyed and was almost done with the impromptu fashion show.

Sensing this, Nana prodded "Please try on the Osh Kosh, By Gosh!

With a puzzled look on his face, he was quiet for a moment. With his head pointed down and his brow furrowed, he looked up with only his eyes and asked "Nana why are you speaking Spanish?

Healthy Snacks

When my son was in preschool, he was devoted to all things Blues Clues. I swear he wished that Steve would pop out of the T.V. and play with him! He would dress like Steve and use a Handy Dandy Notebook. He would run to the mailbox and sing " Here's the mail, it never fails..." ( I still do).
Anyhow, a few of the characters, Mrs .Salt and Mr. Pepper (or is it the other way around?) used to promote eating healthy snacks.

I used to keep fresh cut carrots and celery in the fridge so that he could easily have access to them.

Earlier in the day, we had stopped in at Timmy's so I could get a coffee and we could get some Chocolate Dip doughnuts. He sat happily and ate his doughnut while I drank my coffee.
I couldn't eat mine so I took it home and put it in the fridge.
He got to playing and I was doing some laundry. He ran over and asked if he could have a healthy snack and I said sure. He would then run to the fridge and come back into the living room with a smile on his face.

This went on a few more times throughout the afternoon.

I thought to myself, " Hey, this Blues Clues is pretty cool, they actually got him to enjoy eating healthy foods!"
I went to make supper and opened the fridge to see what leftovers I could use.

I stood there with the fridge door wide open, confused. There, on a plate sat a naked, white doughnut.

It turns out the little bugger had been going in and out of the fridge all day, picking off every speck of chocolate icing that had been on my doughnut!

Healthy snacks ! Healthy Snacks, I love to eat those Healthy snacks!!!

Snuggling

My son, Ted and I don't snuggle . He is getting older now and it just isn't something we do anymore.

The other day, when he came home from school, I could sense that he had had a bad day. I was laying on the couch and invited him to snuggle.

Our couch is fairly long and wide and from what I recall, two people can lay on it somewhat comfortably. Back in the day, he would hop up and lay on me and we fit like a puzzle.

I really don't remember him having so many sharp points on his body! He is growing like stink and his long Kermit like arms and legs do not fold up the way they used to. His hair also does not smell like the baby hair I loved to put my face in. (For some reason preteen boys have hair that smells like mashed potatoes.)

Once we settled in nicely, I remembered just how nice it is to hold him. I looked into his deep brown eyes and could still see that sweet baby boy, with his chubby cheeks and his extra rolls of fat. We still fit like a puzzle ! He truly is a great kid and I wish we spent more time doing things just the two of us.

I am so glad that he still needs his momma and I hope he always will!

meatloaf

It was brought to my attention that my lovely 5 year old daughter fancies herself smarter than everyone else. I don't remember how the conversation began, but in a confident and matter of fact way, she proclaimed that she could make meatloaf. She then asked "what is a meatloaf" She came to the realisation about her super smart prowess because she read 'Eric Carle's Polar Bear book all by herself.

This has been her new favourite book for the last week and she has memorized it and made up a song. I hope that she can keep her self confidence as long as she can. What a great thing to be able to boast that she can play the guitar, drive a car, do the laundry, paint her bedroom all because she thinks she can!
